Curriculum

The current  programmes of study for the National Curriculum came into effect from September 2014 and covers all of the subjects taught in Key Stages 1 and 2.

At Longlands Primary School, we passionately believe that our children have the right to a broad and balanced curriculum. All of the teaching and learning that takes place within school is underpinned by an engaging and inspirational curriculum, designed to foster curiosity and a passion for learning with the aim that children may develop into life-long learners.

Since the changes to the curriculum were introduced, we have adopted a curriculum planning tool called Cornerstones which our staff use to support their planning for both the Core and Foundation subjects. In the documents below you will be able to read more about this exciting and innovative approach to curriculum planning and design at our school. Although we use many of the ideas and approaches advocated in the Cornerstones curriculum overviews we do not always follow the suggested planning for English; instead our staff team choose a range of texts each year which closely link to the topics and genres of writing suggested in the Cornerstones documentation.
