PE & Sports

Welcome to the Longlands PE and Sports page.

Check back to find out what sporting activities and achievements the children have taking part in.

                                      Athlete Visit

On Friday 13th March, we had an exciting visit from Gianni Frankis (an international hurdler). All the children took part in a sponsored fitness circuit to raise money. Most of the money that is raised will be used to improve physical activity for the school, while a proportion of the money will go to ‘Sports for Schools’ to support GB athletes.

The children had to complete a circuit which included: spotty dogs, press ups, leg drives and star jumps. The children did an excellent job, although it was hard work!

After our fitness circuits, we had an assembly run by Gianni and our sportivator Peter. Gianni told the children the most important skills you need to have to become an athlete: determination and perseverance. He told the children that it was not easy to become successful and that he had to fail a lot and that these failures helped him to succeed. The children and the teachers then had a go at the hurdles, which was great fun!

Thank you to everyone that helped with the sponsorships!

                                    Table Tennis

Here at Longlands, the children have the opportunity to take part in table tennis during lunchtime and during PE lessons. The children love playing and they are growing very skillful at the game!

Bancroft class have been learning new gymnastic skills. They have been focusing on their balance as well as creating their own routines. It has been wonderful to see the children enjoying their PE lessons!

                                   Athletics team 2019

On Thursday 7th November, a team of Years 5 and 6 children took part in the Bexley Sports Hall competition held at Bexley Grammar school. The children took part in both field and track events. The field events included: javelin, high jump, long jump, chest push and speed bounce. All the children did brilliantly and tried extremely hard. We won both the girls and the boys javelin events. In the track events, it was wonderful to hear all the children supporting each other. Overall, we came fourth in the competition. All the children should be very proud of themselves! Thank you to all the parents for cheering us on.
