An introduction to the Early Years Foundation Stage by the EYFS Leader - Mrs Allen

We believe that play is a child's work and it is only when a child is really engaged in an activity will they be actively learning. We balance adult focussed activities with child initiated learning throughout the day and foster independence, resilience and a growth mindset in the children. We aim to provide the children with a rich experience in all subject areas which then creates a strong foundation on which to build upon. We ensure we expose the children to a rich vocabulary in all areas of the curriculum in order to extend their language and communication skills and knowledge across the curriculum. We collate the children's comments, work samples and photographic evidence in their own individual learning journals called 'All About Me Books' which support our ongoing assessment of each individual child and allow us to plan next steps. Parent and Carers are kept well informed through our class pages on the website and our Google classroom pages.

We became Early Adopters in September 2020 of the new EYFS Curriculum Framework. Below you can see the new Early Learning Goals which is what we hope the children will achieve by the end of their Reception Year.

We choose topics or themes to cover concepts that we believe the children will be interested in and enjoy but also take into account individual children's interests. We use a variety of engaging children's books to act as a stimulus for learning. Below is an example of some of the key learning opportunities your child will cover during their Reception Year.
