Summer term 2

Welcome back to our last half term of this academic year.  We have lots of things to look forward to this half term including our sports day on Wednesday 28th June.

Enabling Enterprise

The term started with our Enabling Enterprise week. The children worked well in a team.  The project involved making a toy from junk.  The children researched different toys, designed and then made their toy.  They then had to pitch the toy (Dragon's den style).  We had some fantastic toys made (photos to follow) and all of the children worked really hard.

Topic-Tribal tales

This week we have started our new topic 'Tribal tales' which focuses on The Stone Age, The Iron Age and The Bronze Age.  We were very impressed with the research that the children did at home over the holidays and we have been sharing this in class this week

The children have been writing job adverts for a prehistoric animal hunter and we have been looking at the art work from the stone age.

Summer term 1

Welcome back to the summer term.  We have a busy half term ahead of us as we focus on our new topic 'Potions'.  We had a lot of fun reading all the potions that the children made up over the holiday and these have been displayed in the classroom.  Some children actually made a potion and brought them in.

The book we are reading and basing our English work on this half term is 'Alice in Wonderland'.  This week the children have written about their own wonderland.

In our topic work we have made potion pots from clay and we are going to be painting them soon.

The children and I were delighted to see Mrs Cumpson back in school.  We will now revert back to our normal days of teaching, which is

Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday- Mrs Laney

Thursday/Friday- Mrs Cumpson

This arrangement with continue until the end of the summer term in July.

SPRING TERM 2

Welcome back to the 2nd half of the Spring term.  We have already started our new topic 'Predators'.  I was very impressed with all the lovely posters that the children made over the half term and they have all been displayed in the classroom.

The book we are reading this half term is Fantastic Mr Fox.  The children have already completed some great work linked to the book.  This includes descriptive writing and writing instructions.  We have more exciting lessons to look forward to based around the book.

TEACHER UPDATE

As you are aware Mrs Cumpson is currently recovering from an operation and will return to teach Monet class after the Easter holidays.  Mrs Sheridan will be working in Monet class during this time.  As Mrs Sheridan works in KS1 for 2 afternoons a week, we have reorganised our working week until Mrs Cumpson returns.

Monday - Mrs Sheridan

Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday- Mrs Laney

Friday - Mrs Sheridan

HOWLETTS ZOO-Tuesday 21st March

What a lovely day the children had at the zoo.  Mrs Leighton very kindly went along with Monet class and they all had a lovely time.  The children were able to see the animals and link this to our current topic 'Predators'.

Back in class on Wednesday we had discussions about what they saw and the children wrote a recount of their day.

Thank you to all the parent helpers that gave up their time to help with the school trip.

Parent Appointments

It was lovely to meet with lots of parents last week, thank you for coming.

Class work

The children have had a busy half term and they have produced some fantastic work.  We have all enjoyed reading 'Fantastic Mr Fox' and all of our Literacy lessons have been based around the book.  The class have designed a trap to capture Mr Fox and they wrote instructions on how to use it.  We have also had a lively debate in the classroom on 'Is it right for Mr Fox to steal the food?' and the children wrote some good arguments for and against.

In science the children have been looking at food chains and how this links to predators.  We have also used our classification skills to group different predators.  As part of the topic work we have looked at animals from around the world. Then the children chose one animal and produced a leaflet about it which included lots of good facts.

Monet display

The children worked really hard on this display which is outside the classroom.  Have a look next time you are in school.

SPRING TERM 1

I have had a great half term getting to know and working with Monet class.  What a lovely class!  All the children have worked hard and produced some fabulous work.

Our topic for this half term was 'Burps, Bottoms and Bile'.  We have investigated the digestive system, our teeth and also how to keep our bodies healthy.

During the last week of term the children had a fun morning participating in two different workshops - Teethtastic and Gut Feeling.  All of the children had fun and learnt lots of new facts.  The science company that visited our school with these workshops commented on how knowledgeable the children were on these topics and also how well behaved the children were.  So a great day all round.

AUTUMN TERM

14/9/16

London Aquarium Visit

All the children had a fantastic time today and coped well considering the very hot weather. You could see how amazed they were from the look on their faces and the number of times I heard them say 'wow'. Highlights included seeing stingrays, sharks, a turtle, the penguins and the chance to touch starfish. A really good day!

13/9/16

Thank you to all those parents who were able to attend the 'meet the teacher' session today. If you weren't able to attend, don't worry. I will try to include important information on this page. If you have any worries - just ask. You can catch myself or Mrs Cumpson in the playground at the end of the day or you can make an appointment via the school office.

12/9/16

I came across the video below and thought it was rather amazing. See what you think.

'Mini Monet' Kieron Williamson on his 'constant inspiration' | BBC News

'Mini Monet' Kieron Williamson on his 'constant inspiration' | BBC News A 14-year-old artist dubbed "Mini Monet" has spoken of the "constant inspiration" he finds in painting. Kieron Williamson was catapulted into the media spotlight in 2010 when, aged six, his first exhibition sold out within minutes for £150,000.

12/9/16

The children have settled well into the new class. Despite being a shock to the system after the long summer break, they are working hard and producing some good work. We are all expecting great things from the children this year!
