Gymnastics Competition

On Friday 4th March Longlands Primary School enter the School Games, Key Steps 2, Gymnastics competition which was held at the Europa Gym in Eirth.

It was the first time the school had entered the Key Steps competition and we took along a group of four budding gymnastics from lower key stage 2. The team was made up of Reece Stevens and Isabella Nkafu from year 3 and Roman Ware and Nancy Mariner from year 4.

As part of the competition the children had to take part in three events. Firstly they took part in the vault, in which they had two attempts to show off their best jumps. They then moved onto the body management routine to demonstrate their balance, coordination and flexibility. Before finishing with their floor routine which consisted of a forward roll, backwards roll and a cartwheel, as well as a range of different balances and jumps.

The Longlands team tried their absolute best and were great ambassadors for our school. They behaved beautifully and showed great team spirit, I could not be prouder of all four children.

It was a great experience for all involved and the children even got to meet a British gymnast who will be competing in the 2016 Olympic Rio Games!
